QPR boss Marti Cifuentes reveals reason behind Andre Dozzell’s move to Birmingham City
Marti Cifuentes revealed that Andre Dozzell left QPR to join Birmingham City on loan last week after the midfielder decided it was an opportunity he wanted to take.
Dozzell had featured regularly under Cifuentes, featuring in 14 of the Spaniard’s first 16 matches as Rangers head coach.
However, he will spend the remainder of the current campaign at St.Andrews and is out of contract at Loftus Road in the summer.
“He felt it was a good opportunity for him,” said Cifuentes.
“We say thanks for his efforts and wish him all the best.
“There is no player in the world that moves to another club without wanting it. Perhaps he felt that it was a good step for him.
“He had exceptional behaviour since I came here, and I just want to wish him good luck because he is a very good boy.”
Cifuentes added that QPR want to replace Dozzell but have to work within Financial Fair Play restrictions.
New CEO Christian Nourry admitted last week that the FFP situation makes signings unlikely in this January transfer window.
A further issue for Cifuentes is that winger Paul Smyth pulled out of the game against Millwall after suffering a thigh injury in the warm-up.
The Northern Ireland international will be assessed ahead of next weekend’s game against Huddersfield.
