Player ratings from Crystal Palace’s 3-1 defeat at home to Chelsea – Ex-Blackburn midfielder impresses on first Premier League start

Crystal Palace suffered a late 3-1 defeat at home to Chelsea on Monday evening.

Jefferson Lerma gave the Eagles the lead but three second-half goals from the Blues denied Palace any points.

Here are Edmund Brack’s player ratings from Selhurst Park:

DEAN HENDERSON – 5

Held onto Axel Disasi’s header well at the end but was unable to do anything with the two late goals both created by Cole Palmer.

DANIEL MUNOZ – 7

Good interception to stop Ben Chilwell from playing through Nicolas Jackson after Jordan Ayew lost the ball.

Completed five of his six tackles on the night.

JOACHIM ANDERSEN – 6

Chelsea fans wanted a penalty for a foul on Christopher Nkunku in the 72nd minute.

Great block to stop Cole Palmer’s low drive from the edge of the box in the 80th minute.

CHRIS RICHARDS – 7

Made a vital interception when Malo Gusto lost control of the ball with his drive into the box.

Completed 13 clearances – the most of any player on the pitch.

TYRICK MITCHELL – 7

Tried to thread a pass for Franca early on in the second half that would have seen the Brazilian through on goal, but Malo Gusto just cut out the through ball.

Did well to chase down Madueke and stop him from bursting towards goal in the 24th minute.

Madueke was taken off at half-time, with the Palace left-back having the better of him in the first half.

JEFFERSON LERMA – 7

Good block and clearance on Noni Madueke in the 14th minute to stop the former Palace youngster from creating an opportunity at goal.

Unbelievable hit to open his Crystal Palace account and the scoreline in the game.

ADAM WHARTON – 8

Played a lovely outside-of-the-foot pass to set Mateta through with a footrace against Thiago Silva.

Great intervention to stop Noni Madueke from breaking away from his own half after Franca lost the ball on the break.

Another clever interception to play Franca through for a run against the Chelsea defence before half time.

Joint first with the most amount of passes and he had the highest number of touches of any Palace player.

Grew into the game really well and won seven of his eight challenges.

WILL HUGHES – 6

Won 100 per cent of his three tackles.

Replaced by Ahamada in the 78th minute.

JORDAN AYEW – 5

Good tracking back to win a throw-in after Wharton lost possession.

Worked hard but was unable to create attacking moments.

MATHEUS FRANCA – 6

Raw but some really exciting moments during the game.

Clever first-time cross for Mateta after Lerma broke clear – but just overhit the pass.

Looked to be being told by Lerma when to press and who to close down at points in the first half.

Mazy run before half time that drove Palace towards Chelsea’s goal.

Started to show signs of greenness in the second half. Lost the ball to Gusto when breaking away from a corner.

Drove into open space and short in the 75th minute, but it was comfortable for the Chelsea keeper.

JEAN-PHILIPPE MATETA – 7

Had to do better with the chance in the 22nd minute when he was played through on goal by Will Hughes with just Djordje Petrovic to beat.

Superb run in the build-up to Lerma’s opener – sitting Axel Disasi down and bursting towards goal.

Worked hard throughout the game.
