If you are one of 5m people, a free spin on the London Eye could be yours

Here is a birthday treat with an unusual twist.

If you are one of those very special people born on a leap year day (February 29) you are in line for a free ride on the London Eye on Thursday week.

The first 100 people to come forward presenting evidence of their birthday will be allowed to enjoy the famous 30-minute ride with its stunning views of Westminster and central London for nothing.

The offer is only for the big day itself – the Thursday after next being February 29.

With a leap year occurring every four years, or only once in 1,460 days, it is estimated there are 5m people worldwide who can take up this offer. But a cap of 100 places has been set for the pod ride that soars 443ft over the capital.

To qualify, come down to the London Eye ticket hall on the South Bank on the day and provide official proof of your date of birth (driving license, passport or birth certificate).

Imran Tauqir, general manager at the lastminute.com London Eye, said: “We wanted to do something special for the five million people worldwide who were born on February 29 and offer them the chance to celebrate their quadrennial birthday in true London style – with a trip around the iconic London Eye!”
