Heart screening for women in Battersea

A free heart screening service will take place in Battersea next Friday.

The Your Heart Matters truck will be available in Battersea Park, in honour of International Women’s Day, between 10am and 3pm.

The initiative aims to identify women who may be unaware of their potential risk of heart valve disease.

Experts think higher pain thresholds of older women or perceptions of heart trouble as ‘male’ might be contributing to missed heart diagnoses and treatment delays.

Symptoms of heart valve disease may not be immediately obvious and, if left untreated, severe aortic stenosis, the most common form of heart valve disease, is fatal within two years of diagnosis.
