Battersea Arts Centre rent free lease extended until 2035
Wandsworth council has announced it will be extending Battersea Arts Centre’s (BAC) rent free lease in a move it has described as an “early 50th birthday present”.
The announcement means the well loved art centre will be able to stay at its home in Lavender Hill, rent free, until 2035. This will save the centre about £270,000, which can be reinvested in the Wandsworth arts community.

BAC artistic director and chief executive officer Tarek Iskander said: “At a time when so many councils are cutting back on arts and culture funding, we’re exceptionally lucky to have such brilliant support from Wandsworth, who continue to reaffirm their belief in the importance of arts and culture to public life.”
To celebrate turning 50 in 2024, BAC will be working with a host of international artist for a brand new series of shows.
Councillor Kemi Akinola said: “BAC is not just Wandsworth’s but one of the UK’s leading cultural organisations, playing a vital role on the local, regional and national stage. “
