‘About fair’ – Dons boss assesses goalless draw with Grimsby and takes MK win into consideration

AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson admitted his side were not at their best in Tuesday night’s goalless draw at home to League Two relegation candidates Grimsby.

Wimbledon had 15 shots during the 90 minutes, forcing Grimsby keeper Harvey Cartwright into five saves, but they were unable to find a winner.

Armani Little and Jake Reeves both had shots from the edge of the box in each half that just sailed over the bar.

“On the balance of the game, it was about fair.

“We’re a point closer to the play-offs and it’s another point on the board. We came here to win and the plan was to get three points, but you can also lose these games.

“It’s an opponent who are fighting for their lives and they didn’t make it easy for us. 

“They need to take credit as well for making life difficult.

“I don’t think we were at our best.

“When you’re not at your best, it’s important you don’t lose as well.”

Wimbledon secured a last-gasp winner over Milton Keynes at Plough Lane on Saturday, with Ronan Curtis’ winner sparking scenes of wild jubilation amongst the home support and players.

When asked how much that took out of his side, Jackson said: “It did. Probably all of us.

“It was a monumental occasion, so to go again three days later was obviously difficult.

“The boys deserved the opportunity to start again. We lost Omar Bugiel before the game, which was a blow – there is no getting away from that. It affected our plans and how we went about it.

“To put the effort in that they did on the back of a huge effort at the weekend, four points from two games in three days isn’t bad.”
