‘Absolutely brilliant’ – Millwall boss Harris has praise for home fans after 1-0 victory over Birmingham

Neil Harris described the backing of Millwall’s fans in today’s 1-0 win over Birmingham City as “absolutely brilliant”.

The Lions fanbase stayed behind their team in a tricky second period in which the visitors had a strong spell.

But Japhet Tanganga popped up with a late winner, heading home George Saville’s corner to ensure the Championship side have won three and drawn one since Harris took over as head coach from Joe Edwards.

“The remit coming in was to galvanise the football club and see where it takes us – no huge pressure from above,” said Harris.

“Try and get the fans and the pitch back together again.

“What an atmosphere here today. Even second half, when we were a little bit disappointing, the fans were brilliant with the players….absolutely brilliant.

“That is what we need. That patience and respect to the players was repaid tenfold with the goal – from the players to the fans. That is what we have to be as a football club.

“We’ve been in a difficult moment and we’re still in a difficult moment. It is a lot healthier than it was. I’ve just reminded the players that it is a brilliant result and to get 10 points from four games, after not winning for so long, is testament to the spirit, camaraderie and passion within the group. But we have achieved nothing.

“It was a huge win today. I thought our next victory was vital, to get us the points on the board. So I’m delighted.”
