Council launches 17 electrical recycling stations across borough
Residents have been urged to recycle their electrical devices after a council launched a dozen new recycling banks across the borough.
Lewisham council is advertising the 17 new small electrical recycling banks – adding to five that were already in operation – with posters and billboards in libraries and public spaces across the borough.
On average, every household is holding on to 30 small old electrical items, such as cables, hairdryers, headphones and electrical toothbrushes, according to Lewisham council.
The Lewisham campaign will join more than 40 projects around the country funded by the not-for-profit organisation Material Focus.
The aim of the nationwide Electricals Recycling Fund is to reduce e-waste and its impact on the environment.
Councillor Louise Krupski, cabinet member for environment and climate action, said: “This initiative is a collective effort, and we understand that Lewisham residents are concerned about their environmental impact.Â
“It’s reassuring to know that we are making it more convenient for people to dispose of their items more responsibly.”
