London Eye gets fresh lick of paint for spring

A painting crew abseiled down from the top of the London Eye this week to give the capital’s iconic attraction a fresh coat of paint ahead of the first official day of spring.

The paint refresh needs about 5,000 litres to cover the 135m-high wheel – the equivalent of painting 1,660 cars.

A team of eight painters worked five-nights-a-week  for six months, – a total of 9,360 hours of painting maintenance.

Ti Onur, head of operations at the lastminute.com London Eye, said: “Our amazing team take to the skies every three years to ensure the London Eye stays sparkling.

“And this year, even more importantly, to ensure the attraction looks its very best heading into its 25th birthday in 2025.”
