Alfie May sets sights on first Charlton Athletic hat-trick to boost League One Golden Boot hopes

Alfie May has set himself a target of notching his first Charlton Athletic hat-trick before the end of the season – with League One’s Golden Boot firmly in his sights.
The 30-year-old has scored 25 goals in all competitions for the Addicks since his summer move from Cheltenham.
May is on 21 goals in the league – four clear of Barnsley’s Devante Cole and Stevenage’s Jamie Reid.
The striker told the South London Press this week that he has even studied the run-in for his rivals.
“It would be massive for me,” said May, when asked about being in pole position to win the top-scorer award for England’s third tier.
“I’ve never won it before but have been in and around it the last couple of years.
“From where I have come from, being a non-league player, to then winning a Golden Boot in League One – you’re sort of pinching yourself.
“It would be a great achievement for me – a proud moment for me and my family.
“There are a few games left, I want to keep scoring goals and getting points on the board. I need to keep my head down and keep hitting the back of the net.
“I do look at it (the goal charts) quite a bit.
“I saw Jamie Reid got called up for international duty (by Northern Ireland) and didn’t play on Saturday for Stevenage – it’s another game chalked off.
“Him and Devante Cole are four goals behind me but they are top strikers – they are going to score between now and the end of the season.
“I work hard every day to try and better myself. Even being an older and more experienced lad, I still want to learn things. I’m capable of taking things in to improve myself in front of goal.”
May wants 30 goals before the campaign ends next month.
“With seven games to go I know it will probably be tough,” said May. “I’d like to get a hat-trick this season as well. I’ve scored a few braces this year.
“Thirty goals in all comps, I’d be very happy.”
