Millwall matchwinner Duncan Watmore earns praise from boss Harris after downing Sunderland

Neil Harris was full of praise for Duncan Watmore, following Millwall’s 1-0 win at Sunderland which mathematically secured the South London club’s status in the Championship for an eighth consecutive season.

Watmore scored the winner at the Stadium of Light, against his former club.

It was the former England U21 international’s second goal in as many games after also netting in last weekend’s 3-1 win over Cardiff City.

“Wherever Dunc has been, he has been adored by the fanbase and he is growing at Millwall,” said Lions head coach Harris.

“Unfortunately, he has had a lot of injuries over his career.

“A lot of them were sustained here and the team up the road [Middlesbrough], which meant he never got to play as much football for the clubs that he deserved to and to be able to showcase his ability at the top level.

“He has had to adjust his game.

“I really like him. I like him as a bloke.

“He is a top, top pro – every manager says the same about him.

“He’s got some ability as well. My job over the next few games – and next season as well – is to keep him on the football pitch as much as I can. He is a top player.”
