Charlton Athletic technical director on striker target in summer transfer window
Charlton Athletic technical director Andy Scott has talked about the League One club ensuring they have “enough options” in their striking department next season.
The Addicks recently confirmed the release of Connor Wickham, who had signed a short-term deal for the final months of the campaign.
Freddie Ladapo, who arrived on loan from Ipswich Town in the January transfer window, has returned to his parent club.
Charlton do boast the League One Golden Boot winner in Alfie May.
Youngster Daniel Kanu’s game-time has arguably been boosted by Miles Leaburn and Chuks Aneke both being absent in the most recent season due to injuries.
Leaburn, a big prospect, underwent hamstring surgery in December. Still only 20, the frontman scored seven goals in 18 appearances to add to the 13 he netted in the campaign before, his first at senior level.
We reported recently that Coventry City’s Matty Godden is a player of interest. The Kent-raised striker could be allowed to move for a minimal sum.
“We need to strengthen every department,” Scott told the South London Press, when asked about the plans for boosting their forward permutations.
“We have had many discussions about that forward area.
“We suffered in December when we lost Miles and Chuks. Alfie was our only striker. Patrick Casey and Henry Rylah came in, so we were very short. The teams at the top have options and we need to make sure we have enough options to deal with the schedule and the demands of the games.”
