‘It will be interesting’ – Charlton new boy on ex-Addicks winger’s chances of Premier League transfer

New Charlton Athletic signing Luke Berry is waiting to see if Alfie Doughty gets a Premier League lifeline this summer.

Berry was a team-mate of ex-Addicks winger Doughty at Luton Town.

Doughty, 24, scored three goals and collected eight assists. The former Charlton youth product was one of the Hatters’ brightest performers in the top flight but they were relegated at the end of last season.

Berry has signed a two-year contract with the South Londoners following his release by Luton.

Asked about Doughty’s impact in the top flight, Berry told the South London Press: “He’s a great guy and he’s worked really hard. You would have seen it at Charlton – he has this electric pace and quality on the ball.

“I don’t know how many assists he got but I would think a lot of people had him in their fantasy team to get points. He did really well.

“I don’t know, it will be interesting to see if he goes back into the Premier League this summer, or not, because he has done really well.”

See Friday’s South London Press for an exclusive interview with Berry.
