Midfielder lands League Two transfer after Charlton exit

Jack Payne has signed a two-year deal with League Two side Colchester United after leaving Charlton this summer.

The 29-year-old spent last season on loan with Milton Keynes and featured 44 times, scoring seven goals and registering six assists.

Payne joined Charlton in July 2022 on a two-year deal and made 54 appearances for the South Londoners.

The midfielder has had spells at Swindon, Oxford and Bradford.

He has worked with the Cowley brothers before at Lincoln City in 2019.

He told cu-fc.com: “I’ve worked with Danny Cowley and Nicky before and we keep in touch generally, so when the summer came and I became a free agent, discussions started taking place.”

“It got cut short so I’m really excited to be working with them again, I really enjoyed the time I had with them and it was a massive factor in me signing.”
