Charlton Athletic defender makes permanent exit to League Two side

Notts County have signed Lucas Ness on a permanent basis with Charlton Athletic including a sell-on clause in the deal.

The 22-year-old centre-back was not given a squad number by the Addicks and his exit was delayed as he recovered from surgery to sort out a minor ankle injury.

Ness joined Charlton from Met Police in 2020.

The defender looked a real prospect after impressing in EFL Cup outings in the 2022-23 season against Brighton and Manchester United after returning from a loan at Torquay United before suffering an injury in March that ended his involvement.

But he struggled to kick on in the previous campaign despite 21 appearances in all competitions.

Charlton took up an option in Ness’ contract to ensure he was not a free agent.

But his pathway in SE7 looks completely blocked after the addition of Alex Mitchell from Millwall this summer.
