Oliver Glasner confirms two Crystal Palace players want transfer exit before Friday’s deadline

Oliver Glasner has confirmed that Sam Johnstone and Naouirou Ahamada have both asked to leave Crystal Palace before Friday’s transfer deadline.

It is understood that Ahamada is keen to leave the Eagles on loan this summer.

Johnstone wants to leave on a permanent deal after losing his number one shirt and starting role to Dean Henderson following an elbow injury he suffered on international duty with England in March.

The former West Brom stopper was set to go as Gareth Southgate’s number two to Euro 2024 and will want regular Premier League football in order to maintain his international ambitions.

Glasner’s side host Championship outfit Norwich at Selhust Park tomorrow but have suffered back-to-back defeats in the Premier League.

When asked if Johnstone could be in line for a start in the EFL Cup second round clash, Glasner said: “I don’t know at the moment.

“I will answer this question after the first of September.”

When asked if Naouirou Ahamada was in line for minutes after missing out on the matchday squad in the 2-1 defeat at Brentford, Glasner added: “I don’t want to talk about individuals now.

“We have talks with every single player. Everybody knows the situation.

“We know the situation – the players are thinking about it.

“Ahamada has been here now for more than two years and he didn’t have as many minutes as he needs for his age.

“We spoke together and he thinks it will be good for him to get more minutes.

“It’s very difficult with all the competition for his position to get minutes here.

“Maybe there is another option for him. This is what he is looking for. This is what may or may not happen.

“It doesn’t make sense to always keep secrets.

“Sam told us he wants to leave. If he finds a club, he can leave.

“That is not the best siutuion to get a start.”
