Matt Taylor hoping Charlton Athletic visit will change Bristol Rovers’ League One fortunes after ‘brutal’ September
Bristol Rovers boss Matt Taylor is hoping tomorrow’s League One home clash with Charlton will present a fresh opportunity for his side after a “brutal” September.
The Gas are 21st in the third tier and have suffered four defeats in the past month.
Their latest loss came on Saturday after going from a goal up to lose 2-1 in the 96th minute against Wycombe Wanderers.
Ex-Addicks centre-back Taylor made 58 appearances for the club and was also linked with the managerial role at The Valley back in May 2022.
Nathan Jones’ side head to the Memorial Stadium on a run of back-to-back league defeats.
“It builds in terms of the pressure and expectation,” Taylor told Rovers’ YouTube channel.
“You could sense that. Who could handle that? Who is going to stand up and be counted? Who is going to do what is needed against every single moment of the game?
“We played against a team of men today [vs Wycombe] and that grew as the game went on.
“We need that on Tuesday night. There is more than enough within the changing room and the staff room to get us through a difficult spell.
“We will need to stay connected a little bit longer than we did today. We hope we can have a better October than September – it’s a pretty brutal month.
“The results haven’t been good enough. We have to move this to one side. We will put out a team on Tuesday and start the month in a different fashion.
“Things can quickly change in terms of points and positivity. It’s always on a manager’s shoulders in relation to that.”
