Lambeth’s winning businesses and entrepreneurs revealed at awards night
Lambeth’s best and brightest businesses were revealed at an awards ceremony last night that was packed out by more than 100 of residents.
More than 150 people gathered at the Kia Oval in Kennington, for the inaugural BeLambeth Awards to celebrate achievements in skills and employment across Lambeth.
Categories recognised a wide range of contributions, from outstanding volunteers to championing diversity and inclusion and recognising innovative projects driving social change.
Winners included City & Guilds of London Art School, based in Kennington Park Road, which snapped up Educational Institution of the Year, with Streatham Wells Primary School, in Palace Road, Streatham, receiving the categories Highly Commended award.
King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust was awarded Inclusive Employer of the Year, whilst the Rising Star Award went to Martin Miranda Antelo from OCA Community Kitchen CIC.
PropUp Project CIC – a not-for-profit which gives a sustainable second life to Film and TV props – took home the Sustainable Impact Award and Apprentice of the Year went to Julia Brackenbury, from housing company Berkeley St Edward.
Enterprising Young Person of the Year was won by Nazmul Hoque of Through The Lab CIC, a music company which works with underprivileged people and ex-offenders and Black Culture Market received the Creative and Digital Industries Award.
Hosted by broadcaster Fayon Dixon, a Lambeth resident of nearly 20 years, the evening was held in partnership between Lambeth council and a range of employers.
During the evening The Boury Academy presented a special performance by two talented young Lambeth residents while Pegasus Opera Company also entertained guests at the ceremony.
Cllr Claire Holland, Leader of Lambeth council who opened the ceremony, said: “The BeLambeth Awards are a real opportunity to strengthen economic ties in the community and make a tangible difference in people’s lives.
“We want to foster positive change in Lambeth, focusing on tackling inequality and ensuring local people can access career opportunities that will give them and their families a bright future.”
The awards are backed by the new BeLambeth skills and employment portal at be.lambeth.gov.uk which connects residents, especially those from underserved communities, with employability training and job opportunities.
