Man killed in Battersea fire

A man has died after a house fire in Tyneham Road, Battersea.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to the fire at 11.40am this morning which engulfed the ground floor of the property.

The fire was under control less than half an hour later, fire crews from Clapham, Battersea, Chelsea and West Norwood fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said:  “We were called at 11:43am this morning (15 October) to reports of a fire at a residential property on Tyneham Road, Battersea.

“We dispatched a number of resources to the scene including our hazardous area response team (HART), a medic in a car, an ambulance crew and an incident response officer.

“We assessed eight people at the scene. Sadly, a person was also pronounced dead at the scene.”
