Charlton Athletic v Sheffield Wednesday: Fourteen players unavailable for the Addicks as Ben Purrington a late withdrawal

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Charlton Athletic are missing 14 players for today’s Championship home game against Sheffield Wednesday – with Ben Purrington a late withdrawal.

Former Bolton Wanderers and Walsall playmaker Erhun Oztumer had been a doubt with a bruised foot but is fit to start.

Oztumer is about the only bit of good news in terms of team selection as a raft of first-teamers remain unavailable to Addicks manager Lee Bowyer.

Lyle Taylor, Jonny Williams, Jake Forster-Caskey, Chuks Aneke, Lewis Page, Ben Amos, Beram Kayal, Josh Cullen, Tomer Hemed, Sam Field, George Lapslie and Ashley Maynard-Brewer are all injured.

Conor Gallagher – who has scored six goals since arriving on loan from Chelsea – is suspended after collecting five bookings.

Adam Matthews starts at right-back with Chris Solly dropping to the bench. Oztumer and Deji Oshilaja come in for Gallagher and Jason Pearce.

Charlton: Phillips, Matthews, Sarr, Lockyer, Doughty, Oshilaja, Pratley, Morgan, Oztumer, Bonne, Leko. Subs: Harvey, Pearce, Davison, Vennings, Solly.

Sheffield Wednesday: Dawson, Fox, Harris, Fletcher, Bannan, Lees, Nuhiu, Odubajo, Hutchinson, Iorfa, Forestieri. Subs: Jones, Lee, Pelupessy, Winnall, Murphy, Reach, Luongo.

Last season the owls had 14 players out injured for most of the season it comes to most clubs at sometime but we had to do a job and get on with it.
