Update on West Brom midfielder is good news for Charlton Athletic

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Sam Field is close to a return to Charlton Athletic – with the West Bromwich Albion midfielder back training outdoors.

The 21-year-old has been out since sustaining a knee injury in the Addicks’ 2-1 loss at Bristol City in late October.

Field had been back at his parent club receiving treatment.

Charlton are set to have Jonny Williams (knee) on the bench for Friday night’s home fixture against Hull City.

And Field doesn’t sound far away.

Asked about the next player back after Williams, Bowyer replied: “Maybe Sam Field. I tried to speak to the fitness coach I know there today [Tuesday] but we kept missing each other.

“He’s been outside now for a little while with them – doing the fitness stuff and striking balls. I hope he is the next one.

“Josh Cullen is going to be a month – massive loss. It’s unreal.

“I watched us against Derby last night and Josh Cullen, you just don’t appreciate what he does until you watch it back and when he ain’t there.

“None of them are just silly ones – a little twisted ankle. Every one is eight weeks, 12 weeks…14 weeks. But we’ll come through it, I’ve got no doubt we’ll turn the corner.”
