Work to begin on £66m revamp of Aylesbury Estate which housed Tinie Tempah and Arsenal star Reiss Nelson

Work will begin in the coming weeks on the next phase of a multi-million pound estate revamp, which will include a new library, nursery and medical centre.

A new urban square is also planned for the 50-year-old Aylesbury estate in Walworth in a regeneration which has moved a step closer after the appointment of Vistry Partnerships as the main builder for the site.

The £66m project for one of Europe’s largest estates will also create commercial space and 122 new homes for rent – 23 are social rents for over-55s, and 99 are for private rent through Notting Hill Genesis.

This new civic square has been designed to serve as a central hub for the neighbourhood, with a water feature as its centrepiece.
Former residents of the estate include rapper Tinie Tempah and rising Arsenal forward Reiss Nelson.

Vistry Partnerships’ design team for Plot 18 is led by HTA Design LLP and includes Morris+Company architects. Vistry Partnerships is a recent business merger between Galliford Try Partnerships and Bovis Homes.

The estate revamp by Notting Hill Housing and Southwark council will create a total of 3,500 new homes, 50 per cent of which will be affordable, with the others for private sale.

More than 1,300 flats, or about 38 per cent, will be for social rent, with the rest for shared ownership and equity. The work is due to be completed in 2032.
