Crystal Palace Ladies out of FA Cup but Charlton progress as they pass Ipswich test

Crystal Palace Ladies lost 3-2 on penalties to Coventry Ladies in the FA Cup on Sunday.

The Eagles trailed after Helen Dermody converted an early penalty.

Nikita Whinnett, in her first match after a long injury lay off, crashed home an angled volley off the underside of the Coventry bar to make it 1-1 on 63 minutes.

Palace could not convert several chances with the tie going to spot-kicks after extra-time.

Eagles boss Dean Davenport said: “Naturally, we have a group of disappointed players in the changing room.”

Second-placed Palace are at home to Gillingham on Sunday in the FAWomen’s Southern Division.

Charlton Athletic Women were 5-2 winners in the same competition at Ipswich Town Ladies, but again the contest went into extra-time.

Kit Graham (2), Charlotte Gurr, Samantha Pittuck and Charlotte Lee netted.

The Addicks head to C&K Basildon Ladies in the FA WPL Cup on Sunday.

AFC Wimbledon Ladies are five points clear in South East Division 1 after a 2-0 victory over Cambridge United Women with Katie Stanley and Jenny Banfield on target.
