Charity worker skydives to raise almost £5K for seriously ill children and their families

The sky’s the limit for one charity worker who has helped raise almost £5k to support seriously ill children and their families.

Rachel Tween, 53, who works as House Manager at Ronald McDonald House Tooting, took on a skydive from 10,000 feet this weekend.

Ms Tween, along with a team of colleagues, took off from Salisbury as part of Ronald McDonald House Charities UK’s ‘Skydive Weekend’ event.

They managed to raise over £4,800 for the charity that provides free accommodation to families with seriously ill children.

Ms Tween said she was inspired to take on the skydive by the families she helps support every day in Ronald McDonald House in Tooting.

She said: “As House Manager at Ronald McDonald House Tooting, I see what families with seriously ill children in hospital go through on a daily basis.

“The fear, stress and anxiety parents feel is unimaginable for someone who has never been in the same position.

“If they can get through that, we can jump out of a plane. It will all be worth it if it means we can continue supporting families.”

Ronald McDonald House Tooting is an eight-bedroom facility, which provides free accommodation and support for families with children in St George’s Hospital in Tooting.

The House offers comfortable bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, shared kitchens and communal living spaces, just moments from the hospital wards.

The facility is one of twelve Houses run by Ronald McDonald House Charities UK.

Vanessa Simmons, National Community Fundraising Manager at Ronald McDonald House Charities UK, said: “We’re thrilled with the success of our first ever skydive event at Ronald McDonald House Charities UK.

“We’ve seen both supporters and staff fearlessly take to the skies to raise vital funds for the Charity, and we’re pleased to announce the event raised a total of £135,000.

“We’re looking forward to doing it again next year.”
