Cheltenham’s Alfie May undergoing medical ahead of Charlton Athletic move

Alfie May is undergoing a medical at Charlton Athletic this evening as the South Londoners look to wrap up a deal for the Cheltenham Town frontman.

The Kent-raised attacker, 30, is set to join on a two-year contract with the fee in the region of £250,000. There will also be a 12-month option to extend.

May is set to become the Addicks’ third signing of the summer transfer window.

Personal terms will not be an issue and Charlton have pressed ahead with the deal after the financial breakdown of it became acceptable.

May has been prolific in League One for the last two seasons and is determined to leave the Robins.

The Addicks would be the third stop in his professional career after initially signing at Doncaster Rovers after an impressive scoring return at Hythe Town.

May was on the books of Millwall as a youngster and was let go at 14, dropping into the non-league game.

Charlton manager Dean Holden was asked at the weekend about May and Ipswich midfielder Idris El Mizouni, who re-joined Leyton Orient on loan earlier this week.

He told the South London Press: “I can’t talk about these players – it’s disrespectful.

“I’d hate to come away from here and see other managers have spoken about one of our players. I think that’s disrespectful. It’s the wrong thing to do. It just adds to the hype. We’re working very diligently and quietly in the background.”
