Community centre hosts cook-along events to help struggling parents

A community centre hosted its first cook-along-event last Thursday to help teach parents how to make healthy food for kids on a budget due to the rising cost of living.

The Max Roach Loughborough Community Centre (MRLCC) in Wiltshire Road, Brixton will be hosting a series of cook-a-long events for families from lower income backgrounds, alongside leading baby and child nutritionist, Charlotte Stirling-Reed.

The classes will run weekly throughout the summer at the Brixton centre. The sessions are part of a campaign by healthy kids’ food brand, Little Dish, and London’s largest food re-distribution charity, The Felix Project, to help families in need.

Ms Stirling-Reed said: “As a child nutritionist, my number one priority is to make it as easy as possible for parents to feed their children nutritious food.

“There is a lot of information out there on how to feed your child and it can be overwhelming, I am passionate about empowering parents to provide the best for their children.”

Little Dish has developed an affordable and versatile “super sauce” recipe, which uses up leftover food and can be used to make seven nutritious meals throughout the week.

Costed at 48p per portion, the recipe aims to help those struggling with the cost-of-living crisis.
