Croydon town centre roadworks to last until mid-February

A series of roadworks in Croydon town centre will be taking place until mid-February.
The council said the works will improve journeys for bus users and pedestrians.
Bus stops for southbound services in High Street are also set to be reopened and a new one-way system through Katharine Street and High Street should mean shorter bus routes through the town centre.
The zebra crossing in Katharine Street is set to be moved to the end of the road outside the Spread Eagle pub.
Another crossing will be added to the High Street by Robert Street.
Pavements in the part of High Street that is already pedestrianised will be levelled and the gates at the end will be removed.
From February 17, cars will be able to turn into Fell Road, outside the council offices, from the flyover as it will become two way from the junction with Mint Walk.
Work has already started and there will be road closures in place until February 17 for it to be completed.
Until February 10, Katharine Street from Fell Road and St George’s Walk junction, to the High Street, outside The Spread Eagle pub will be closed.
High Street from Katharine Street to Whitgift Street will be closed between January 18 and February 17.
Croydon Mayor Jason Perry said: “I’ve listened to residents’ concerns around bus connections in the town centre and it’s great that these changes will improve bus routes and journey times for bus services from both the north and south of the borough.
“I’m also pleased that the new cycle lanes and crossings will improve road safety for everyone, and that we will see improved access to Fell Road by car for residents and businesses.”
