Greenwich academy receives prestigious award for students’ academic and personal achievement

Students and staff at an academy in Greenwich are celebrating after receiving a prestigious award for the third time.  

Harris Academy Greenwich was awarded The World Class School Quality Mark for providing students with excellent academic qualifications and support to become well-rounded and socially responsible young adults.

The bid was led by Miss Hollie Hughes, Drama Lead Practitioner, and the academy’s Year 10 students, Amalia Mitrovici, Bobby Hughes, Javan Wanzusi, Amy Tchaha, Jeyda Kaspal, Daisy Livingstone and Linh Nguyen.

Miss Hughes said: “This was a wonderful experience that allowed students to showcase their skills and abilities as leaders and learners in school and in their communities. 

“I feel really proud to work in a World Class School, knowing that we give our young people a world class experience.”  

The project enabled the students to explore their roles as learners and leaders who strive to achieve in education, in their communities and in the world.  

Ben Keely, Principal of Harris Academy Greenwich, said: “We are delighted to have retained our World Class School status. It is recognition that we continue to go above and beyond our Ofsted Outstanding judgement to provide a world-class education to our students.  

“We are hugely proud of the Year 10 pupils who led this year’s bid. They were pivotal to our success and their enthusiasm and dedication to their studies shone through at every stage.”

The World Class School Quality Mark is a UK charity and awarding body that accredits the best non-selective state schools across the country. 

The award is for schools that have moved beyond their ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted judgment and which show that they develop the skills and characteristics that young people need to thrive.
