Harris Boys’ Academy developing character through Active Citizenship
Students at Harris Boys’ Academy, East Dulwich have been developing their Active Citizenship characteristics throughout the year with an incredible range or trips, extra-curricular clubs and guest speakers.
Being an Active Citizen means making a positive contribution to your local community
By focusing on our five character traits both in our curriculum and through our personal development programmes, we support students to do this.
Our Active Citizens character traits are:
- Ambition
- Confidence
- Curiosity
- Respect
- Resilience
Every student this year at HBAED has been out on a trip, with some of the highlights being the Houses of Parliament, Sky Studios, Price Waterhouse Coopers, Barclays and the Globe Theatre (where the whole of Year 7 watched a production of Romeo & Juliet).
Students this year have also enjoyed more than 40 weekly extra-curricular clubs including computing, gardening, enterprise, science and chess as well as a huge range of sports clubs.
We have also had more than 50 students taking the Duke of Edinburgh award for the first time, a brilliant nationally-recognised award.
In addition to all this we have had guest speakers ranging from the wonderfully motivating and engaging Action Jackson to charities such as Movember and social justice groups such as UK Feminista.
All of these experiences help our students to live and breathe the traits of Active Citizens.
