First London coronavirus vaccine outside hospital administered in Lambeth

By Rebecca Spencer

A new Covid-19 vaccination centre in Lambeth administered the first London jab outside of a hospital setting yesterday.

Dr Jayesh Patel, pictured, was one of the first London GPs to carry out the vaccination, using the PfizerBioNTech vaccine at the Hurley Clinic in Kennington Lane.

He said: “The vaccine gives us a ray of hope.”

Other practices in South-east London also received delivery of the vaccine yesterday, with most starting to administer vaccination today.

NHS staff  urged Londoners not to contact the NHS or GPs to request a vaccine before they have received an invitation by letter, as patients will be contacted in order of priority.

Another doctor at the Lambeth vaccination centre, Dr George Verghese, said: “I’m thrilled that we have a vaccine after the pain and dark days our patients have gone through – this is a moment of hope.”
