Greenwich boxer Daniel Dubois makes yet another trainer change as Don Charles replaces Shane McGuigan

Daniel Dubois has changed trainer for the fourth time in his career after splitting from Shane McGuigan.

The 25-year-old Greenwich heavyweight is now working with Don Charles, who is most well-known for developing Dereck Chisora.

Dubois started his professional career with Martin Bowers before a parting of the ways after he was pounded into submission by Joe Joyce  in 2021, switching to Mark Tibbs.

But the South Londoner did not even have a bout under Tibbs before hooking up with McGuigan.

Dubois had four fights under the tutelage of McGuigan, the son of Irish ring legend Barry, including winning the WBA world heavyweight title last June against Trevor Bryan in Miami.

Charles is the latest to be training the former GB amateur prospect and is fully aware that he has not stayed with one coach for long.

“All you can do is perform and get results,” Charles told Seconds Out. “It’s like being a football manager. When you get a top job then if you don’t deliver for whatever reason then you get fired.

“Look what I’ve done with Dereck. People didn’t give Dereck a chance, even people involved in his early development in the amateurs. They didn’t tip him to win a British title and we won that in Dereck’s 10th fight. I know me and I’m confident in my ability.

“All I haven’t won as a coach is the world title and I’ve got an athlete (Dubois) I believe is equipped to cross that line.”

The new partnership’s first bout could be against WBA ‘super’ champion Oleksandr Usyk as he is mandated to face Dubois after a unification against Tyson Fury failed to be signed.

“In an ideal world we get a tune-up fight but that part is out of my hands,” said Charles.
