Huge plume of smoke seen across Greenwich as firefighters tackle house fire

The whole of the first, second and third floors of an end-of-terrace house are currently alight.

Ten fire engines and about 70 firefighters are tackling the blaze in a house in Davern Close, Greenwich.

The London Fire Brigade’s 999 control officers have received more than 20 calls to the fire.

The brigade used 999Eye to live stream the blaze from a smart phone to screens in the control room, allowing them to view the incident before they arrived.

A spokesman from the London Fire Brigade said: “When a 999 call is received by the brigade, the caller may be asked if they would like to provide a live video stream of the scene using their smart phone.

“The control officer will send a text message with a secure, one-time-use link that opens a live stream direct from the phone to the control room.

“999Eye provides better situational awareness and allows us to offer the best advice based on live footage.”

The London Fire Brigade was called at around 12.15pm. Fire crews from East Greenwich, Lewisham, Lee Green, Poplar, Plumstead and surrounding fire stations are at the scene.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
