‘I can’t lie, I wanted to do that so bad’ – Miles Leaburn on emulating dad Carl by scoring Charlton goal at Covered End

Miles Leaburn has described it as “a dream come true” to score in front of the Covered End for Charlton – just like his dad Carl.

The 18-year-old netted their fifth goal in Tuesday’s 5-1 thumping of Plymouth Argyle.

Former Chelsea youth teamer Leaburn, promoted to the Addicks senior squad in pre-season, celebrated with a knee slide.

“That’s what I’ve been wishing for – to score in front of that end,” said the teenager, who signed a three-year professional contract in July. “I wanted to do that so bad, I can’t lie.

“I slipped through Payney [Jack Payne] and it richocheted. I thought I’d have a crack and went with the sidefoot, to go for accuracy.

“The team were unbelievable the whole game – the way we kept the ball and the way we took our chances was just clinical.”

Leaburn is top of the scoring charts after also netting on the opening day at Accrington.

“I have faith in myself but I couldn’t imagine it would go this well,” he said. “I just hope it keeps going well. I’ll keep working hard and trying my best.

“I set a target with one of my old coaches, Hamza [Serrar], and I’m trying to get to that goal.

“When the team has got that momentum when you come on it makes it so much easier to get into the game.”
