Book reviews with Pauline Atkins: The Deli-Detective Wraps It Up by Glynn Christian

Hello South London Book Lovers.

I had to do a little research on the person behind this next review as I was informed that he is the owner of a delicatessen in Portobello Road Market, was on BBC Breakfast Time three times weekly with a pioneering cookery show, helped found the Guild of Food Writers and the Great Taste Awards, as the first Food Editor of ELLE UK and wrote weekly for The Sunday Telegraph.

He is the author of many cookery books and wrote a book on his ancestor Fletcher Christian who was the leader of the 1789 mutiny on HMS Bounty.

As you can imagine, I was very intrigued with the author of this book.

He is a connoisseur of food so if you have a love of food, the way he describes the smells, the flavours, and the combination of food, that you would never think of putting together, will definitely get your mouth watering.

The book is set around a particular deli, in Portobello Road just after the Notting Hill Carnival in 1978.

Its owner Dan Heath, who is known in the community as Deli-Detective Dan, becomes involved with the investigation of a young man, discovered murdered, in the basement kitchen of his own deli.

Three months later, during a Guy Fawkes party, Dan uncovers the body of another young man that went missing on the same night that Dan discovered the first murdered young man.

Confused yet? Is this a coincidence or is someone trying to frame him?

I won’t give too much away but there is also a third murder that he needs to solve with the help of his friend Princess Luciana and his shop assistant Trev.
