London musicians scoop up gongs at the 2021 MOBO Awards
Musicians from South and West London scooped up a number of awards at the UK’s biggest celebration of Black music and culture.
Brixton-born MC Dave, who took home Best Newcomer at the 2017 MOBO Awards, has come full circle by winning Album of The Year for his critically-lauded release “We’re All Alone In This Together”.
The release became his second consecutive No.1 charting album on the UK Official Charts.
Dave was also the most nominated artist at this year’s MOBO Awards, with five nominations in total.
Rising star Central Cee from Shepherd’s Bush took home Best Newcomer and became the first winner of MOBO’s Best Drill Act.
In a breakthrough year for the artist, he shot to No.2 on the UK Album Charts with his debut mixtape “Wild West” and scored a Top 5 charting single with ‘Obsessed with You’.
Tion Wayne and Lewisham-based Russ Millions won Song of The Year for ‘Body (Remix)’ featuring ArrDee, Bugzy Malone, Buni, Darkoo, E1 (3×3), Fivio Foreign and ZT (3×3).
Cleo Sol, from Ladbroke Grove, won Best R&B/Soul Act while Lewisham artist D. Block Europe picked up Best Hip Hop Act.
The ceremony, at Coventry Building Society Arena, was hosted by Little Mix’s Leigh-Anne Pinnock and comedian and broadcaster Munya Chawawa.
The show featured performances from a diverse range of talent, including Thamesmead singer ENNY.
Stefflon Don performed Dip with Ms Banks, who is from Camberwell.
