Orpington Literary Festival is back for its third year

Back for a third year, Orpington’s celebration of the written and spoken word returns this month with appearances from sixteen talented authors.

The programme – which runs from May 13 to 18 – kicks off at Orpington Library, where bestselling author of more than fifty-five novels, James Swallow, will discuss his work and sign copies of his books.

Other venues taking part in the festival include Pato Lounge in High Street Orpington and  London South East College’s BR6 Bakehouse.

On Saturday 18, Between 10 and 11am, Orpington Literary Festival will host discussions with author and screenwriter Emma Norry who writes fiction and non-fiction for children aged  between eight and 13 years old.

Ms Norry will delve into her recent two book adventure series, Fablehouse and Heart of Fire, published in June 2023. Copies will be on sale and Ms Norry will be available to sign editions.

Later in the afternoon, children and their families are invited to explore the wonders of the natural world with the award-winning children’s author and illustrator Matt Robertson.

Visitors will learn about the planet – from the tiniest of kingdoms underground to the deepest seas – in Mr Robertson’s quiz, followed by a chance for children to create their own wild creature.

Mr Robertson, from Norfolk, has written and illustrated more than 20 children’s books.

His first picture book, Super Stan, was shortlisted for the Waterstones Book Prize and won the Dundee Children’s book prize in 2017.

In 2020 his first book in the Do You Love? series was awarded the Sainsbury’s Children’s Book Award.

Orpington Literary Festival has been organised by Orpington 1st Business Improvement District (BID) in partnership with Bromley Libraries, and supported by Rotary Orpington District E-club.

Chris Travers, Executive Director of Orpington First said: “We’re big believers in the positive role that arts, culture, and entertainment play in shaping places, and we’re delighted to work in partnership with Bromley Libraries to bring these events to the town centre.”
