Peckham is a Place Called Home explores Peckham

Photographic archives show the community that makes Peckham feel like home.

Running throughout the rest of October at Peckham Levels, Rye Lane, Peckham, this exhibition of photography by Christian Cross shows that home is more than just four bricked walls.

Peckham is a Place Called Home is a free photography exhibition exploring Peckham and its people.

The exhibition is sectioned into several series including Place and Faces, which hones in on the people and parts of the community that make Peckham feel like home.

Da Mandem consists of 11 gritty images of men who were born and raised in Peckham, while Peckham BMX Club displays 37 images of the black leaders and keen youth who frequent Peckham BMX track in Burgess Park.

Lastly, Peckham is Protesting shows Mr Cross’ most recent series, documenting the peaceful protest held by members of the community after a video of a black woman being allegedly strangled by a shop worker inside Peckham Hair and Cosmetics shop circulated online.

Mr Cross was born and raised in Peckham, he hopes his photographs act to preserve Peckham’s community history.

Peckham is a place called Home will be on at Peckham Levels until October 31.
