Talk of the Town NHS: Vans For Bands offers NHS hospitals state-of-the-art luxury sleeper buses

Staff from the Intensive Care and High Dependency Units at University Hospital Lewisham are being given the chance to relax in a very rock ’roll’ style.

Music industry vehicle company, Vans For Bands, is offering its entire fleet of state-of-the-art luxury sleeper buses to NHS hospitals for front-line staff to use during the COVID-19 pandemic, with support from musician Frank Turner and comedy writer Adam Kay.

Dr Mick Jennings, ICU Consultant at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust said: “Taking time away from wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) to unwind and recharge their physical and emotional batteries is now, more than ever, vital for NHS staff.

“We’re doing a lot of work as a trust on staff support, but obviously any additional space we can use for this is fantastic.

“We hope people can really get behind this campaign as it’s going to be very well used, and appreciated by our teams. A huge thank you, from all of us, to everyone at Vans for Bands for their support.”

Vans For Bands who are subsidising the project, have also launched a JustGiving page to cover the costs of keeping the fleet on site at the hospitals.

Ed Thomson, director and co-owner of Vans For Bands, says: “The social gathering restrictions brought about by COVID-19 have resulted in our entire fleet being unused at the moment.

“We are very happy to be able to offer our tour buses to NHS hospitals anywhere in the UK for the duration of the restrictions as a place for staff to take a rest or sleep in at the end of or during their shifts.

“We feel it’s only right that we all do everything we can to support our NHS.”

Jay Clarke, senior clinical fellow said: “The tour bus is going to be a great place for frontline staff to relax and debrief away from the pressurised environment they are working in.

“It will be so important to have a quiet moment to unwind before heading home.”
