The best of live Rhythm and Blues at the Eel Pie pub

Eel Pie Island became a hotspot for thousands of youngsters in the 50s and 60s.

The run-down hotel just across the Thames in Twickenham, hosted the likes of the Rolling Stones, The Who, Elton John, David Bowie, Pink Floyd and Rod Stewart, before any of them became well known.

Now, with the hotel long gone, the Eel Pie Pub in London Road is keeping alive the legend of the ‘60’s Eel Pie rhythm and blues scene.

The pub has a full line up of affordable gigs announced from September until November, with all tickets priced between £14 and £16.

One September 12, Twickenham will welcome Giles Robson – a multi award winning, Blues harmonica virtuoso and singer.

Mr Robson is only one of three UK blues artists alongside Eric Clapton and Peter Green to win a coveted Blues Music Award in Memphis – The Grammys of the Blues.

Taking to the Eel Pie with his band, Mr Robson will also be introducing a special guest – Chicago born blues singer Robbin Kapsalis.

Later that month on September 26, The Zac Schulze Gang will perform their mix of blues and rock following the release of their debut album, Live and Loud on July 12.

Hot on the heels of winning ‘Best Emerging Blues Band’ at the UK Blues Awards in May, The Zac Schulze Gang promises a classic set of tracks steeped in the traditions of Blues Rock.

Other highlights of the line-up include the Robin Bibi Big Band with their album release show Blowin A Storm.

Award winning British blues guitarist and singer-songwriter, Robin Bibi can only be described as a true “Legend” in his own right.

Mr Bibi’s stellar CV includes playing with the likes of Jimmy Page as well as performing on bills which have included BB King, Van Morrison, Bob Geldof, UB40.
