Brixton distillery bags international award despite only launching inaugural rum seven months ago

A Brixton Rum distillery has bagged a prestigious international award despite only launching its inaugural rum seven months ago.

The newly-established Brixton Distillery Company in the heart of Brixton market has been awarded a silver medal in this year’s International Spirits Challenge 2021 (Rum & Cane Spirits) for Market Row Botanical Rum.

Patrick Venning – Co-Founder

Based in Brixton’s Market Row arcade, Market Row Botanical Rum was up against top-quality spirits from across the globe, with the competition receiving more than 1,800 entries from nearly 70 countries worldwide.

Laurent Lacassagne, Co-Founder of The Brixton Distillery Company, said:”We’re thrilled to have received this award only seven months on from launching Market Row Botanical Rum.

“Our Master Distiller Matt Servini has crafted a stand-out botanical rum and Brand Ambassador Mikey Hirsch is enjoying spreading the love in Brixton and beyond as pubs and bars welcome everyone back.”

Patrick Venning, also Co-Founder, said: “Whilst this is big news for us, what really matters is the local feedback that we have been getting, which has been fantastic and that is really what makes what we do worthwhile.”

Brixton’s Market Row celebrates food and drink from Europe, India, Asia, Africa, South America and the Caribbean.

Market Row Botanical Rum uses a blend of pot still rums from five historic and award-winning distilleries in their own right across Jamaica, The Dominican Republic and Barbados.

It is then infused with Kenyan black tea, Nigerian hibiscus and Asian red rose petals – vibrant, interesting and unique botanicals inspired by Brixton Market and Market Row.

The rum is also fast-becoming a hit in a growing number of bars and restaurants across London including The Gibson and Mimi’s Private Members Bar, and more than 25 bars in Brixton.

Market Row Botanical Rum is available at www.brixtondistillery.com at an RRP of £34 (50cl).
