The Old Brewery… Mother’s Day’s coming up so book early

A one-minute walk from the Cutty Sark puts the Old Brewery very close to the top of the list of places to eat in London, if location were the criteria.

Walking past one of the nation’s most historic vessels always lifts the spirits and then on towards the majestic architecture of historic Greenwich.

The Old Brewery was most recently the site of Meantime Brewery, with so many more classical uses of the building before that.

A well-worn tourist spot, any concerns for privacy and an intimate setting were misplaced.

We sat tucked away in the corner, surrounded by families and newly dating couples hoping to impress one another.

Families are welcome and activity packs were delivered to our table within minutes of our arrival, sending little one into a creative trance.

The menu won’t surprise but its execution will delight.

Those expecting the British classics will love it here and the Sunday roast ticked all the boxes – fist-sized roasted spuds, huge Yorkshires, home-made stuffing and even bread sauce to accompany the chicken.

The sharing roast looked like fun if chicken, beef and pork are your thing.

There is a whole section dedicated to sharing and my eye was on the Fisherman’s Sharing Platter – prawn cocktails and other fishy fayre.

Butcher’s Board looked a cracking choice over a few glasses of something cool – be it beer or wine.

Pork and bacon Scotch egg, pork, chilli and fennel sausage roll, marmalade glazed gammon, Nantwich cheddar, Granny Smith apple, red onion bacon jam, rhubarb ketchup and buttered sourdough looks set to please most.

Mother’s Day’s coming up so book early as the restaurant is sure to sell out.
