Spotlight on Fashion

Sustainability in fashion is no longer a rarity and rightly so.

The fashion industry is one of the world’s worst polluters, and this week’s grim report from the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) made clear that change needs to come quickly.

The best way you as a consumer can help is by making changes to how you stay on trend by shopping small and choosing high quality over mass-produced garments.

This is not as hard as it sounds as South London is overflowing with unique brands creating custom products and prioritising the planet in everything they do.

Female-owned Crease Studios is a clothing and accessory brand based in Deptford. Created by co-founders Kate Donald and Rosemary Lambert, Crease‘s bespoke lingerie is as beautiful as it is sustainable.

Both founders met in their final year at the London College of Fashion where they collaborated for the annual Press Show and, after receiving Collection of the Year, they decided to launch Crease Studios. Since then, they have been crafting sustainable clothes in their South East London studio “with integrity and honesty at the heart”.

Crease’s designs are ethereal and romantic, with flattering cuts and unique silk ruffles informed by elements of the beach, scallops, clouds, sea and sky.

The environmental impact of every decision is thoughtfully considered from the fabrics and manufacturers used, to packaging and practices in the studio.

Founder Kate Donald said: “Sustainability is at the core of what we do and it’s our mission to reduce waste and contribute to an industry of slow, ethical fashion where everyone involved within the supply chain has fair, happy working conditions with good working hours, pay and benefits.

“We only manufacture in the UK which not only keeps our CO2 emissions low but also enables us to regularly visit our manufacturers to build strong relationships and ensure good working practices.

“Our sunny studio is located on the river, surrounded by nature in a peaceful pocket of Deptford.

“We love working here as it often feels slightly off grid, so it’s easy to get lost in your own creative bubble.

“There is a fantastic sense of community here too, which is not always easy to find in London but makes such a difference to our ‘home away from home’.”

Crease‘s latest limited edition package is part of an exciting collaboration with Peckham florist Pollenet using the brands signature colours.

With nature and sustainability playing a key role in informing both Crease and Pollenet’s ethos and values, the collaboration sees like minded female creative partners come together and create something bespoke and beautiful.

The custom collaboration contains Pollenet’s signature bouquet bunches and one handmade lingerie set in two exclusive colour ways inspired by Pollenet‘s bouquets, Polle Purple and Fuchsia Pink.

A spokeswoman for Crease Studios said: “We are beyond excited to announce our collaboration with Pollenet.

“Nature has always been a firm inspiration for us and plays a strong role informing not only our ethos but the silhouettes and details in all of our collections.

“We love how Pollenet’s arrangements are aesthetically considered, with a playful, modern, romantic touch which works perfectly in tandem with our pieces.

“Pollenet’s arrangements steer away from traditional floristry and have a delicate, raw and gentle feel that beautifully complements our pieces.”

Pollenet

A simple assortment of flowers has the power to evoke memories, brighten your home or be a source of inspiration.

Founded and led by Holly Clemett, Pollenet creates flower forward arrangements that are bold, fun, funky and beautiful.

The relatively new brand, born in 2019, has already been endorsed by the likes of Vogue, Grazia, Missoma, Anissa Kermiche, John Lewis, Vanity Fair and other big names.

Holly’s Pollenet is something new to the floristry industry, bridging the gap between beautiful arrangements you’d be proud to display in your home, as well as show stopping bouquets for events.

The one-of-kind arrangements steer away from traditional floristry to create the brand’s signature and unmistakable aesthetic of captivating colours and strong silhouettes. Pollenet bunches are different each week and flowers chosen are always the florist’s choice, meaning you’re guaranteed a bunch with the unmistakable Pollenet style.

It wouldn’t be a Pollenet bunch without favourites hydrangea, garden roses, asparagus fern and anthurium.
