Blackheath artist delves into human vulnerability hosting solo exhibition in a church

An artist from Blackheath is debuting his work with a solo exhibition hosted in a sacred venue.

The inaugural solo exhibition of Sebastian Alabaster, Stare into the Shadow, is taking place at the Church of the Ascension in Blackheath, on May 25.

Mr Alabaster said: “As an artist deeply entrenched in the local community, I’ve always perceived churches as democratised spaces, where egos are humbled and barriers to entry are minimal. 

“Departing from conventional gallery spaces, I’ve chosen this sacred venue to showcase my latest body of work.”

In his collection, Mr Alabaster delves into human vulnerability and imperfection.

He said: “Each stroke of paint on canvas serves as a raw, unfiltered expression of my identity, inviting viewers to confront their own complexities in the reflection of my art.

“I encourage you to engage intimately with the pieces, treating them not merely as static objects, but as living entities within the space.”

Viewers are advised to take a seat on the church pews beside the works to experience their surroundings whilst observing the pieces.
