Entwined at the Zari Gallery until October 29
A photography exhibition telling the story of four unrelated Jamaicans who travelled to South-east London in the 1950s has opened this week.
The show by artist Cherron Lee Johnson, called Entwined, contains black and white portraits of the four members of the Windrush generation.
Alongside the portraits, recordings of their voices, and their memories written in wood are also on display.
The artist said: “Telling stories of your ancestors help define you. Entwined has a universal theme as we all have stories to tell.”
First exhibited 21 years ago at the Jamaican High Commission, the pieces take on a new relevance and poignance as all four of the subjects have passed away.
Entwined is on display at the Zari Gallery until October 29.
