Franco-Japanese musician Maïa Barouh heads to London this April

Franco-Japanese singer, rapper, producer, and musician Maïa Barouh is coming for a rare trip to London this April.

Maïa has built a distinctive sound around her two main instruments, flute and voice.

The result is raw, spacious, and thought-provoking whilst also being playful and quirky.

Themes of her music include an exploration of anti-Asian racism and feminism.

Her lyrics and production take inspiration from the eccentric Tokyo underground scene, traditional folk singing, tribal grooves, French rap and electronic elements, a production that fluctuates between roots and reinvention.

Off the back of critical acclaim for her recent album release Aida, Maïa will be heading to London this April for a string of solo dates across the capital which will show her performing both a full electronic and acoustic set.

Show locations include Finnish Church in Southwark on April 21, Cromwell Place in South Kensington on April 22 and The Tent at the End of the Universe in the West End on April 23.

Maïa collaborated with rapper Elea Braaz to combine her two native languages, finding the perfect French lyrics for traditional Japanese melodies and to find a Japanese rhythmic flow when rapping in French.
