Poems of tragedy and triumph all to a mixtape beat at the Albany, Deptford

A new collaborative show by award winning poets will be staged at the Albany Theatre, Deptford on Saturday June 23.

The Mixtape Tour, featuring Nick Makoha and Roger Robinson, brings together their poetry, their personal stories of migration, politics, tragedy and triumph, with the music that has soundtracked their journeys and lives.

Both have a close affiliation to south London – Ugandan-born Nick lives in Croydon and Trinidad-raised Roger lived in Brixton for a long time and the area has a particularly strong influence on his work.

This Saturday will see the first full version of the show to be seen in London. With enduring friendship at its centre, hear poems which leap back and forth in time, giving voice to the universal struggle to carve out personal and political identities. Poems about music and political commentary, stories of migration, personal tragedy and triumph … all tied together through an unforgettable series of images and a soundtrack of songs, from Afrobeats to hip-hop, from reggae to soul. Through a heartfelt, humorous and honest exploration of two individual lives, Mixtape will inspire audiences to compile the definitive track list of their own experiences.
