Talk of the town – Art – Take a walk on arts’ trail

An arts’ trail is back for its 11th year and will show the work of more than 100 artists in 20 venues. The Sydenham Arts Artist Trail is back from July 6-7 and July 13-14, presenting many artists new to the Sydenham scene.

There are three art hubs on the trail, two venues in Dacres Road, including the atrium at Forest Hill School, which will host a range of talented artists including the Brockley Potters, the Quaggy Printmakers, MA students from Camberwell College of Art as well as the school’s GCSE artwork.

The Thorpes estate and Sydenham Road has 12 open houses and shops hosting 30 artists; and at Kirkdale Village, there are six new venues: Artisan Village, The Moustache and Dulwich Reclamation plus three nearby open houses.

In addition to art in shop windows, there will be a taster exhibition hosted by The Dolphin Pub and more than 100 artists exhibiting at the renamed Anna Lovely Gallery. A number of artists will be demonstrating their skills or running workshops: painting, collage or glass-making.

A pottery exhibition showcasing the works of a weekly pottery group will take place over the weekend of July 6-7.

The Brockley Potters craft their work every week at the studio at Lewisham’s Adult Learning Centre and will be exhibiting it the Forest Hill School. Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to view and buy work and meet the artists.

Andrew Knee, a Brockley Potter, said: “The Brockley Potters share a real passion for clay and a strong commitment to quality and originality.”

The work is unique with a wide range of styles and materials from fragile hand-built pieces in Limoges porcelain to larger thrown pots and sculptural work. Andrew added: “The Brockley Potters produce work which is always unique and exciting in a wide range of styles and materials and will be exhibiting their work as part of the Sydenham Arts Trail.”
