What’s On: The Wimbledon Art Fair takes place at Wimbledon Art Studios
Artists at Wimbledon Art Studios have transformed their working studios into immersive experiences for Wimbledon Art Fair, which opens this Thursday.
They will open them up the general public for four days (14-17 Nov) inviting visitors to explore their studios that have been converted into stunning, immersive and interactive spaces.
Daphne Stephenson presents her jungle-inspired studio taking inspiration from her travels to Kashmir and Caribbean. With vibrant Rousseau-inspired paintings of foliage and wildlife, her paintings and botanical textiles bring a splash of exotic colour to London.
On the other side of the jungle is artist Fred Coppin’s amazing series of plant inspired still life paintings, which bring a digital glitch art vibe to a traditional art format.
Artist Angelika Spranger will unveil her installation ‘There is only one water’, inviting visitors into a soothing meditation room to bathe in the immersive moving reflections of water, and unwind to the sounds of gentle splashes.
Angelika’s life-giving photography of ever-changing ripples encourages the public to contemplate the precious and unique properties of aquatic magic.
Record-breaking, five star-rated sugar artist and cake-maker to the Queen, Jacqui Kelly, will offer a tasty exploration of her Edible Art Studios, an emporium of edible sculptures of weird and wonderful characters and creatures from popular culture.
Artist Christine O’Brien will open up her games room studio, where visitors can explore and play with her game-inspired jewellery and embrace their inner child.
These are just a handful of 150 of London’s top artists and makers inviting visitors to explore their natural habitats.
The Wimbledon Art Fair takes place from 14 to 17 November 2019 at Wimbledon Art Studios, one of the largest single-site art studio complexes in London and one of the only venues of its kind in Europe.
The fair takes place across two buildings, eight floors and 150 private studios and admission is free.
