Millwall boss has his say on Barnsley loanee Callum Styles – as release fee could be factor

Gary Rowett says Millwall would be keen on a deal for Barnsley’s Callum Styles – but the price point is key.

The 23-year-old spent last season on loan with the Lions and it was reported earlier this week by The Athletic that Watford were in negotiations.

But the outlet added that a fee had not yet been agreed between the two clubs.

Styles signed a new deal with the Tykes before being allowed to head to South London and that included a release fee.

The Hungarian international’s stay in SE16 was hampered by some spells on the sidelines.

“The release clause is quite high,” Rowett told the South London Press. “Stylesy had a little bit of missed playing time through injury, which was no fault of his own. We didn’t feel it was the right time to try and pursue that one.

“But he is a player that we would be interested in, at the right level. He’s Barnsley’s player and what they want to do could be completely different to what one or two other clubs want to do – that’s their prerogative.”
