15 year old Femi elected Young Mayor of Lewisham by young people across school polling stations

Femi Komolafe, 15, has been elected Young Mayor of Lewisham following an election that attracted an impressive turnout of 55 per cent.

The Bonus Pastor pupil won after taking 1,858 votes, and becomes Lewisham’s 16th directly elected Young Mayor, following the results announcement in the Civic Suite on October 17.

Aaliyah Odedina, 16, who attends Haberdashers’ Aske’s Knights Academy, was elected Deputy Young Mayor after polling 1,535 votes with a manifesto that focused on young people’s mental health.

On election day, October 16, Lewisham’s young people voted at polling stations at schools across the borough.

Femi ran on a manifesto which focused on his faith, creating opportunities for young people to showcase their talents and supporting them to become the leaders of tomorrow.

On winning the election, Femi said: “I feel very happy. I give thanks to God and everyone who supported me. I’m very grateful and I will do my best to repay their faith in me.”

The election, held during Local Democracy Week, saw 9,238 youngsters voting, representing a turnout of 55.01%.

Femi will be in office for one year and will have a budget of £25,000 to spend on priorities identified by young people.
